Encouraged by a new master plan for Isla Vista, this student housing project is to become the seed development for the new downtown core of this laid back college town. The massing was broken into virtual buildings, which would be finished in different materials, and different methods, to achieve the appearance of a neighborhood grown over time.
The design is creating an open context that is hopefully added on to over time. The project falls under the theoretical construct described under 'Downtowns from Nowhere' in the 'Viewpoint' Section of this Website.
