The international competition called for designs to unite the city's historic core with the newer portionsbuilt under Soviet rule. The Center's buildings would be dedicated to Ulugh Beg, an enlightened leader, who 600 years ago, guided his people out of religous fervor into a modern scientific time.
Our design creates a large central park, which at one end connects to the historic mosques, but provides a new mosque on the opposite end of the park on the edge of the newer (Soviet) town.
A new science center connects old town with new and provides a walkable roof, allowing the public to view their entire city from a new vantage point..
